Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing at Bayern Munich's training ground on Friday.

However, the manager will be absent for a period of weeks as tests continue to determine what caused the incident.

Kompany has been suffering with a viral infection and did not attend his pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of Bayern's Champions League game against Arsenal.

However, the manager was in the dugout for his side's 2-2 draw with the Gunners on Wednesday.

Speaking on Saturday, Max Eberl, Bayern's director of sport, said: "The good news is he's stable. I spoke with him last night, as well as with his wife. He will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days until everything has been checked and verified.

"The cause has been investigated all along. He already had minor issues last week. The doctors are doing nothing but figuring out what it is.

"The examinations have already yielded some results. But further results are needed to classify what it is and how long it will take for him to recover.

"I'm not a doctor. But we can support him energetically and lovingly.

"Vinnie will get all the time. We're not going to start setting any timeframes. We need to find out what the issue is and then it's a question of what the recovery time will be.

"We're not talking in terms of days, but weeks. We're all clear on that."

Aaron Danks, Kompany's assistant, also spoke to the media on Saturday, saying: "I promise we will do our best to avoid as many football conversations with Vince as possible and just allow him time to recover, be with his family and get himself healthy.

"We'll take care of the football for as long as we can."

Bayern confirmed Kompany had collapsed on Friday, with a statement reading: "Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during training for FC Bayern's amateurs.

"The first-team coach had been watching the second team's session. Kompany will undergo thorough examination in the hospital and remain in medical care.

"For the time being, his coaching staff will manage training and match operations."

Kompany's former club Manchester City also sent their best wishes, with a post on their X feed reading: "Everyone at Manchester City is wishing a speedy recovery to our former captain and club legend, Vincent Kompany.

"Get well soon, Vinny."

Bayern face Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, with Danks taking Kompany's place in the dugout.
